Professional Status Requires More Than Just a Qualification: Why Belonging to a Recognised Professional Body Matters

The Vehicle Damage Quantification (VDQ) Qualification is increasingly recognised as a cornerstone of professionalism in the Motor Body Repair (MBR) and Insurance sectors. With the rapidly advancing vehicle technologies, the industry has acknowledged that holding a qualification alone is no longer enough. Today, what truly defines a professional is not just a qualification —but an ongoing commitment to professional development, learning and adherence to governance standards set by a recognised professional body.

The VDQ Qualification, registered with the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO), confirms the baseline competence of practitioners. However, to remain in good standing and retain the title of Certified Vehicle Damage Quantifier (VDQ), members must also belong to the VDQGBSA—the SAQA-recognised Professional Body responsible for upholding standards in this critical discipline.

“A qualification may open the door,” says a senior official from VDQGBSA,
“but ongoing CPD (Continuous Professional Development) is the key to staying relevant and competent in a fast-changing automotive landscape.”

✅ Why Belonging to VDQGBSA is Essential

As a recognised professional body, VDQGBSA ensures that its members adhere to ethical standards, governance protocols, and professional conduct in line with the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Act and SAQA’s requirements. Members who hold the VDQ designation must comply with the VDQGBSA CPD Policy to maintain their professional status. Your stamp of Approval!!
